INDIANA the First Post-Roe State To Ban Abortion!

Governor Holcomb and the Republican leadership in Indianapolis really impressed me these last few weeks as they came together to make Indiana the first state in the country to implement a new ban on abortions after the Supreme Court overturned its rulings in Roe and Casey! I have had a great appreciation for Governor Holcomb since before he assumed office after Mike Pence left office to become the Vice President. What I really admired about Holcomb was the approach to politics; which seemed to merge the restrained pragmatism of Mitch Daniels with the unrestrained conservatism of Mike Pence. Eric Holcomb seems to be a conservative like Mike Pence, but also a pragmatist like Mitch Daniels. When Roe was overturned, , especially after the debacle in Kansas.

The new abortion ban in Indiana; which takes effect September 15th; does reflect the Indiana governor's pragmatism, however. Under the Indiana law; abortions are still allowed to protect the health and life of the mother, if the child is less than 10 weeks along, when the unborn child has a lethal anomaly, or in cases of rape or incest. Unfortunately, the ban does not require victims to sign an affidavit testifying to the crime. With the exception to the health of the mother and lethal anomaly clauses, I'm not a huge fan of these exceptions, but progress is progress and the new Indiana law will save lives!

The Indiana law also places new restrictions on WHO can provide abortions. As of September 15th, abortions in Indiana can only be provided in hospitals or outpatient centers owned by hospitals. Dedicated "abortion clinics" without a hospital owner will all lose their licenses to practice in Indiana. Additionally, doctors who perform abortions are required to file all the necessary reports justifying their termination of a life, or they will lose their medical license.

Whether or not the law will actually be implemented on September 15th is difficult to determine. In addition to the abortion lobby spending millions of dollars to try and overturn the Indiana law in court, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is also going to be fighting off the Biden Administration and the DOJ; which are likely to crack down on Indiana like they did on Idaho. Between now and September 15th, all that's needed to stop the Indiana law is a single activist judge ordering an injunction.

However, Attorney General Rokita has been on his game and Indiana is in as good of a position as it possibly can be moving forward. As much as I don't like some of the exceptions, it does protect Indiana's pro-life status from most of the left's most common attacks and invalidate many of their easiest talking points.

We're incredibly proud to be Hoosiers today and exceptionally glad to have KTracy.com HQ in Indiana.
