WordPress Reversion Happening in January

UPDATE: The WordPress Reversion Didn't Happen at KTracy.com

As Kevin Tracy shared with everyone on November 9th, KTracy.com will be reverting back partially to WordPress.

I now have more details to share with you about what that will look like and when Kevin Tracy expects the change to be finished.

We expect to have our visitors hitting a WordPress store again sometime during the first full week of January with limited functionality.

However, not all pages will be managed in WordPress. The WordPress CMS is going to be limited to the store and Indieweb features. All other content will remain on static web pages. In fact, we intend to keep the same file structure as much as possible. So these press releases will remain at their existing addresses and will be accessable through KTracy.com. Kevin Tracy has asked that the static web pages mimic the WordPress design as closely as possible to maintain a common feel across the entire site.

The reason Kevin Tracy asked for a half-static/half-CMS approach was because of his delight over the SEO benefits we've seen since switching back to static pages for the first time in nearly 10 years. Static webpages load several times faster than the bulky WordPress pages; which is what we attribute the SEO gains to.

The store will be accessible almost immediately after the switch. We expect there to be several days, possibly even a week, of lead time to get the other pages ready. Kevin Tracy has expressed his desire to have the header and footer code on the WordPress pages to be stripped and written in PHP to further speed up the site. This is something we haven't done before, but we're confident we'll be able to make it work using the SemPress theme. Writing that PHP ourselves ensures that we'll be able to use the same exact code on the static pages as the WordPress pages for navigation features. Kevin Tracy's only concern is how flexible this will be with the shopping cart in WooCommerce, but he's instructed the team to push ahead and cross that bridge when they come to it.
