KTracy to Rand Paul: Everyone Has A Stupid Idiot They Love

Earlier today, Senator Rand Paul took his message of intellectual laziness, known in many circles as "libertarianism" to Twitter; where everyone on the internet goes in search of intellectually lazy ideas. Senator Paul even took the time to record his message as a video so as to make it easier for supporters of intellectual laziness who are adverse to reading.

What Rand Paul is saying isn't entirely untrue and has vast appeal. Indeed, everyone has either been vaccinated or been afforded the opportunity to get vaccinated (except for kids under 12 and those with pre-existing medical conditions that make the vaccine too risky). His line of reasoning isn't different from anyone else's given this fact. If they didn't get the vaccine, more than likely "it's their own damn fault and should suffer the consequences if they catch COVID. We shouldn't be inconvenienced anymore."

However, although the United States is rapidly losing its Christian identity, Christian ethics still form the basis of many citizens' moral compass, Christian and non-Christian alike. We know, fundamentally, that if our personal convenience might hurt someone else, we should abstain from that personal convenience. This is essentially the Republican argument against abortion. The life of a child outweighs the personal convenience of the mother. It's not unless the mother's life is at risk that abortion becomes a regretable necessity.

Even putting Christian ethics aside, Rand Paul's It's Their Own Damn Fault if they Die Because They're Stupid Idiots ideology ignores even our basic human instincts to protect those we love. Extrapolating from the fact that 46% of Americans think they're better than everyone they know, it does not take a huge leap of logic to assume that almost everyone loves a stupid idiot.

It's terrifying how easily our rights can be crushed with the threat of a pandemic; which is where Rand Paul is coming from. However, the founding fathers assumed (to varying degrees) that a free people would be somewhat responsible. For a segment of our population, personal responsibility and common sense is lacking. Instead of encouraging them by saying, "It's time to resist," I really wish Senator Paul would have used his clout to encourage his intellectual lazy followers to get vaccinated and wear masks so that another round of lockdowns and mandates wouldn't be necessary to protect those stupid idiots we love.
