On April 10th and 11th, the student body came together and voted for their class officers and Representatives.  Now, as these specially elected students prepare for their 9 months of service, a question is being raised. Should At-Large Members be allowed to vote on issues as if they were elected like the Representatives?

The Student Council Constitution states that:

ARTICLE 3.
Section Two: Any person may be an at-large member.  They may vote and serve on committees but they cannot hold an office or be chairman or vice chairman on a committee.

Why should and shouldn't At Large Members be able to vote like the Representatives?

Each Class elected five Representatives.  They did not elect the At Large members to represent them and therefore have no right to do so.  There is no way for a Democracy to exist because we'd have to get everyone in the auditorium to vote after school.	Since any person can be an At Large Member, then all students have a right to vote for themselves making the Student Government closer to a Democracy.
There are 20 Representatives but fewer special seats (Chairmen, vice chairmen, President, Historian, ect.), so no matter what happens, there will be Representatives that who went out of their way to get elected and will have the same power as students who walk in and vote.	At Large Members don't even have the opportunity to hold these special seats.  So why not let them at least vote?
It gives some classes more votes than others.	If the students of one class want something more than another class, don't they at least have a right to have it?

Ok, now tell us what you think.  Do At-Large members steal voting power from the elected Representatives or do they lead the Student Council away from a Republic and into a Democracy?
