Miss California Scandal Settled After Sextape Found

Yes, those were some mighty spicy tacos last night.

Yes, those were some mighty spicy tacos last night.

I ask you, is better way to finish off a week in the office than to check out my website to see us discussing photos and videos that are totally inappropriate for your work computer? You’ve probably heard by now that The former Miss California title holder who expressed her love for Jesus Christ and support for traditional marriage and was subsequently snubbed by the Miss America judges (sparking so much controversy that it would lead them to invite Rush Limbaugh to be a judge of the next contest) has officially relinquished her title in an out of court settlement. In exchange, the Miss California committee agreed to pay for Carrie Prejean’s publicist and lawyer… oh, and they also agreed not to release a homemade pornographic video made by Prejean.

To my knowledge, the video still hasn’t been leaked to the public so I don’t have to make the difficult decision of whether or not to link to the video. (Sorry, guys.)

Of course, all the conservative loudmouths out there that blindly rushed to Carrie Prejean’s defense after her speech at the Miss America contest are now nowhere to be found… which makes you wonder if they maybe found her sex tape.

To be fair, this isn’t really a “sex” tape as Prejean was the only one appearing in the video, supposedly.

But this then raises two very interesting questions.

ONE: WHY!? I’m not going to question why she filmed herself… doing stuff. People in this country are pretty messed up and doing stuff on film is probably on the less shocking side of things that people do when they have too much time on their hands. But here’s what I don’t understand. Why in the world did she share the film or leave it anywhere that it could leave the privacy of her personal video collection?

TWO: How many more times are conservatives going to be let down by their elected officials, religious leaders, and role models? It’s gotten to the point where I think a lot of conservatives just don’t care anymore and the consequences of that are not going to be pleasant. Next time, we may not be so lucky. What if it was Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) who made the sex tape? What if it was released? I know I would be afraid to ever sleep again.

I know you guys hate it when I do this, but it’s time to jump on my bandwagon and start holding our leaders accountable for the stupid things they say and do. And yes, that most certainly means I’ll continue to write about Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee.

Seriously … shouldn’t her 15 minutes have been up a LOOOOOONG time ago?

She says now that she’s being “Palinized.” If she means irrationally propped up by a conservative movement apparently desperate for attention, then I agree with her.

Haha, VERY well put, Mr. Wickle. :)

I wish I had come up with that.

Well, I have to give credit … that was actually from my wife!

If she can not be a spokes person for traditional marriage, then should ex-gays be allowed to be a spokes person for traditional marriage? Granted this is a large scandal which would not have been if she supported gay marriage. The former director of Miss California had her photos in a major adult magazine and was not ashamed of them. The difference being one of the miss Californians have said what she did in her past was inappropriate while the other says it was appropriate and made money on there distribution.

I think conservatives need to ask what is the nature of sin. And if (sic) they have sinned ask what should they do about it today. I think conservatives need to look at scripture for guidance on this question; What would Jesus do?

I think we can see that misscalifornia.org is a tainted source for any recruitment of spokes people for values. Any person from that organization is going to be called a hypocrite; And, if any are taken we need to follow scripture for guidance on what is required to overcome sin.

“What would Jesus do if he made a sex tape, shared it with his boyfriend, and had it surface when he lost his title as Miss Israel?”

Somehow, I don’t think the “What would Jesus do?” question can be applied here.

    Wayne,
and if you’re suggesting we should unilaterally forgive and forget every stupid thing a conservative role model or politician does, then we’ve lost the battle as social conservatives. Conservatism works because it FORCES us to take responsibility for our actions and suffer the consequences, thus making the masses take the right course of action. Economically, the fores of supply and demand, the free market, and our desire food and shelter make this work. Socially, however, the only leverage the “right thing” has over stupid decisions is the idea of final judgment. But if a person does not fear divine judgment, he or she will have no reason to stop making stupid social decision except for the response of their peers… and maybe getting the clap. What’s more, if a person makes such stupid decisions, they REALLY should not be the leaders of the social conservative movement.

I don’t know how much this really bothers me. Does being a Christian and being pro-traditional marriage make her a saint? No. How many other Christians out there make a “special tape” for his/her significant other? I don’t know, I just think is a little bit overblown. It’s not like she’s doing something weird with a farm animal while snorting blow, u know? She made a sex tape: stupid thing to do, but not necessarily not-Christian.

Although God never specifically told us never to film ourselves doing this stuff and then sharing it with other people… I have a feeling that’s still going to be considered un-Christian by most practicing Christians. When John McCain was pandering to the Christian Right, he said he would work to get rid of internet pornography. He didn’t say to restrict its access to 18+ audiences only – he advocated an actual ban on all internet pornography.

Haha, just a fun factoid here, too. It’s illegal to wear shorts in the Vatican City. Seriously, they won’t let you in.

What’s more, a boyfriend is different than a husband. Premarital sex and showing off your… you know… to someone who isn’t your spouse is probably also going to raise the red flag for Christians.

    She certainly would not get to heaven based on her good works;

But, is the act of making a video of yourself for a boyfriend unforgivable?

Mind you I think her past does indeed make her a bad role model for children. It is very good that she was not asked a question about relations before marriage – what a disaster that would of turned out to be.

She was in error to take on a “holier than thou” presents, but not wrong in defending the institution of marriage. One does not need to be a Christian to defend marriage. One does not need to “holly” to defend marriage. Her error was that of an novice. She should of been counseled by those who put her in the position to be a spokes person.

“what would Jesus do?” is in regards to how Jesus would handle a sinner, what he would tell them, as Jesus never sinned, he was temped, he paid the price for sin, but he never sinned.

“take responsibility for our actions and suffer the consequences” … absolutely but change comes from the heart; and many sinners need prayer to overcome their sins.

If one is singled out for judgment and not all – Are we not practicing an inequity. What did God do to his people in Israel for inequity?

Adolf Hitler was a staunch anti-communist. Should we therefore praise him for invading the Soviet Union? I sure as hell hope not.

The problem I have with this whole situation is that social conservatives rallied around somebody who did not reflect their values simply because she said something about traditional marriage that they liked.

Hitler was also opposed to gay marriage. That doesn’t make him somebody whose judgment we ought to rally around, defend, or celebrate.

So then what do you suggest one does with this scripture

    Galatians
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Seems God not man has decided many years ago what Christianity is, was, and will be, It is not for me to attempt to change it.

    Galatians 6
1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5 for each one should carry his own load.

We should not praise Hitler but …

Luke 6:27 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

We did good to Hitler by blowing the hell out of his country and stopping him from killing more innocent people. Likewise, we will do good to Ms. Prejean by making encouraging her to stay silent and out of the spotlight and thus making a further mockery of herself and her religion.

  17. Comment by Travis Gearhart on November 16, 2009

well hell, if you would have told me earlier that McCain was going to ban internet porn I never would have voted for him! lol, I kid, I kid.
